I am a Chartered Psychologist and Integrative Psychotherapist.
I am is also Junior Dean of Trinity College Dublin; a Professor in Applied Psychology and a Forensic Psychologist; and Course Director of the MSc in Applied Psychology at Trinity College Dublin.
I am trained as a psychologist and psychotherapist to work in an evidence-based, and considered manner, according to the needs of particular clients and contexts.
I work therapeutically with clients experiencing a wide range of life issues, difficulties, problems, and crises. These may be the effects of childhood sexual abuse, relationship breakdown, domestic violence and major trauma. I also work with those experiencing the symptoms of psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder.
I have expertise in forensic mental health assessment, and forensic investigation. I deliver courses in suicide risk assessment, prevention, intervention, and postvention. This links in with my expertise in Crisis Intervention and Stress management. My Forensic Psychology experience also includes working with a range of clients in the criminal justice system, as well as those seeking assessment for such issues as civil and criminal injury claims. I have also worked with the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, and Serious and Organised Crime Agency. My most recent research is in collaboration with the Probation Service in Ireland and northern Ireland, and An Garda Siochana, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland – this is evaluating techniques for sex-offender risk assessment. Research with the PBNI also includes evaluating anger management programmes for offenders in the community.
