The D4 Clinic
The Dublin 4 Hypnotherapy
and Hypnosis Dublin Clinic
The difference between different types of therapy.
So what is the difference between hypnotherapy and hypnosis, mindfullness and CBT? What is the difference with different therapists and clinics for hypnosis and hypnotherapy in Dublin and within Ireland? What qualifications does a therapist need within the hypnosis field within Ireland and how can you find a good hypnotherapy in Dublin?
Well as the only clinical hypnotherapist in Ireland who has trained to Masters level in Trinity College I can tell you that hypnotherapy and hypnosis are the same, the big difference is between clinical hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis, this difference is based on number and requires a totally different skill set. For example you would not go to a comedy hypnosis show to stop smoking? Yet, you would not go to a clinical hypnotherapist for a fun night out?
Comedy hypnosis is based in the premise that out of every 100 people in a room 10% are highly suggestible, these are the people the hypnotist invites on stage. The clinical hypnotherapist does not operate on this bases and if he did he would be turning away 90% of his possible client base. Clinical hypnosis is a progressive procedure, where as stage hypnosis is fast and flashy.
Most hypnotherapists in Ireland have no medical or mental health qualifications, some have only a week long or weekend course done in the therapy, which is dangerous for all involved but their is no legislation within the field of therapy in Ireland so just about anyone can call themselves a therapist. In the D4 Clinic myself and my team are all medically trained psychologists, with year of experience and training from the best Universities, so you know you are dealing with a registered mental health professional with full insurance to make sure your feel comfortable and safe while in the clinic.

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors. CBT is commonly used to treat a wide range of disorders including phobia’s, addiction, depression and anxiety.
Cognitive behavior therapy is generally short-term and focused on helping clients deal with a very specific problem. During the course of treatment, people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on behavior.
The cost is €75 per session. A course of 8 to 10 sessions is recommended to see significant change

Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment.
Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.
Though it has its roots in Buddhist meditation, a secular practice of mindfulness has entered the American mainstream in recent years, in part through the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, which he launched at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. Since that time, thousands of studies have documented the physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness in general and MBSR in particular, inspiring countless programs to adapt the MBSR model for schools, prisons, hospitals, veterans centers, and beyond.
Mindfullness is offered on a one to one basis, for just one or a number of sessions in our clinic.
The cost is €75 per session and clients are given a CD to take home with them to allow them to practice Mindfullness at home.

The D4 Clinic in Dublin (Ballsbridge and Blackrock) has launched a new service to help client to get over an addiction to social media including Facebook, Twitter and other related media.
The services comes from a massive increase a huge rise in addictions to social media which is starting to effect peoples work life, personal life and mental health.
Speaking at the launch of the service Psychologist Jason O’Callaghan said “People are being increasing addicted to social media because it is so freely available, even smokers or alcoholics can’t do it all the time but those addicted to social media live on their phones. There mental health is being damaged due to the barrage of images and false reality that they are seeing on line, most have more virtual friends then real friends and cyber bulling is becoming more frequent on social media especially amount young people.”
“We are seeing a huge impact on people between the ages of 15 and 40 where they are on line all day in one form or another. This has lead to to the rise of digital detox weekends and programs to unplug us from the 24 hours on line lifestyle. We offer counseling,CBT and clinical hypnotherapy to clients who wish to deal with their addictions.”
HYPNO-BIRTHING A NEW WAY OF
HAVING YOUR BABY
Hypnobirthing, an alternative during childbirth
Alternative Therapy has always been used during childbirth. Hypnobirthing is a new method which allows mothers to be to go under hypnosis before, during and after childbirth to allow them to control and reduce the anxiety, pain and stress of giving birth.
The process allows mothers to come into our clinic, go under hypnotherapy for relaxation, get used to the process and then take a recording of the hypnotheapy session home with them to practice. Then in a follow up hypnotherapy session the client comes in and records a session where under hypnosis see the whole process of the childbirth and the joy of having a new baby in your life once the birth is over under hypnosis.
The idea (and midwifes have no issue with this) is that during the hours and maybe days of labour in the hospital before your baby is born that you teach your mind and body to relax using hypnotheapy and are in the right frame of mind for the moment when your child is born.
Hypnobirthing does not remove any feeling or joy from the experience is simply gives you a tool to help you to deal better with the anxiety, stress and worry of childbirth and makes it easier for you to go through the experience.
We offer this service in our Blackrock Hypnotherapy clinic in Dublin with trained psychologist Jason O’Callaghan. Each session is only €75 and includes a free hypnotherapy session on cd for you to practice at home.
